In-Depth Information About Ecuador Travel

Ecuador is a tiny nation of extremes, a deep connection of the Northern and Southern hemispheres, a thin line between the Old and New worlds. Centuries of Inca, Andean, and Amazonian indigenous civilization that went into the Spanish colonial rule, Ecuadorian history has many stories of its independence. This tiny country has numerous tales of modernization; and, most recently, decades of tumultuous government. All of which have given Ecuador's economy, politics, crafts, architecture, languages, and religious customs one primary trait: profound variety. Ecuador is one of the smallest countries in South America, but, with nearly 14 million residents, it's home to a diverse population that includes a sizable number of Amerindian, white, black, and mestizo people.

For millions of travelers who come here to seek a difference, Ecuadorian variety and distinguished attractions translates into myriad opportunities to explore and enjoy this multifaceted country. During a visit here, you'll have ample and easy access to hefty doses of awe and adventure, whether floating down the Amazon in a dugout canoe.

Quito Travel Guide!

Quito, the capital of tiny country called, Ecuador, is built on the ashes of the northern Inca capital following the 1533 Spanish conquest. The city has clear images of colonial riches. Although set in the north-central part of the country, it makes a convenient launching point for travel to anywhere in Ecuador, including the Galápagos Islands and the Amazon.

At Quito, you can witness a long, narrow valley at the foot of the restless Volcán Pichincha which measures about 30 km (19 mi) from north to south, but only 4 km (2 mi) from east to west. The city has a population of 1.2 million people lies only 24 km (15 mi) south of the equator, but because of its altitude it enjoys a mild climate all year.

The people of Quito fondly call their city as the land of four seasons in one day—a statement supported by the spring like mornings, summery afternoons, autumnal evenings, and wintery nights.

Amazon Jungle Tours

This Amazon tour needs a level of physical fitness. Unlike any other traditional vacations, such as hiking in high heat and humidity, Amazon jungle tours needs you to physically healthy to meet the challenges. Many people use their departure date as a target for getting into shape – excellent idea. We especially recommend conditioning of the legs, lungs and heart. You'll only be taking day hikes and canoe trips at the jungle lodge, but exploring in the Amazon heat is more strenuous for anyone that is unaccustomed to this type of activity. You certainly do not have to be an athlete, but you do want to be in good health and condition in order to get the most from your trip.

The Ecuadorian Amazon gives you a rainy, humid and warm environment. The rain becomes more frequent in March and continues through July. August thru early December is more of a “fluctuation season,” meaning that it can rain one minute and be sunny the next. This fluctuation makes it hard to classify this time of year as part of the rainy or less-rainy season. January is the start of the least rainy period, a period that continues on until March. Keep in mind that downpours and cool rainstorms can appear unexpectedly anytime of the year, so be prepared for your Amazon tour!

Surfing During the Ecuador Travel

Ecuador is world’s best-kept surfing secrets. While at Ecuador, enroute to the Galápagos Islands and the Pacific coast, the country offers at least 50 surf spots where the waves consistently break overhead. The coastal water is warm, especially from December to June, but the Galápagos are wet-suit territory pretty much year-round. The best surfing months are December to June, when the ocean is often glassy in the morning, and the sky is usually clear. From June to November, the water gets choppier and cold, especially in the Galápagos, and onshore winds can further complicate conditions, though the mainland experiences days with good conditions year-round.

Galápagos surfing is considerably more appealing and expensive, due to logistics and lodging costs, but the islands have few surfers and the waves are consistently overhead and uncrowned. Mainly, San Cristóbal island has five breaks, most of which are over volcanic-rock platforms; though pleasant from January through May, the water gets cold here during the June-to-December rainy season.
